The diaries from the excavations record the characteristics and appearance of different layers (or strata), their relative depth or thickness in metric measurements, as well as their relationship to parts of the Stone House. They also record, on occasion, any contemporaneous built features and earlier habitation remains brought to light over the course of excavation. These stratigraphic details can help clarify the interrelationship of finds and architectural features and establish context.
